# Finishes and Liners

Epoxy paint, galvanising, zinc or stainless-steel liner: how to choose a wrought-iron planter's finish depending on its exposure.

## The structure: a finish, not a colour to choose
Matte black epoxy paint on forged bars
The wrought-iron structure gets a matte black epoxy paint — the most common finish across the network, chosen for its weather resistance and discretion in a garden or on a balcony. It's the inner liner, in direct contact with damp soil, that really determines how long the box lasts.

## The three liners available
Zinc Weight: Light — estimated lifespan: 15 to 20 years — care: Natural patina, no particular upkeep Stainless steel Weight: Medium — estimated lifespan: 25 years and more — care: Rust-proof, occasional rinsing is enough Technical plastic Weight: The lightest — estimated lifespan: 10 to 15 years — care: Replace if cracked, the most budget-friendly option
| Liner | Weight | Estimated lifespan | Care |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Zinc | Light | 15 to 20 years | Natural patina, no particular upkeep |
| Stainless steel | Medium | 25 years and more | Rust-proof, occasional rinsing is enough |
| Technical plastic | The lightest | 10 to 15 years | Replace if cracked, the most budget-friendly option |

## Why the liner depends on exposure

On a balcony heavily exposed to sea spray or frequent watering, stainless steel stays the most durable liner despite the extra cost. Zinc offers a good weight/lifespan compromise for everyday use. The technical plastic liner, the lightest, suits a window size where total weight matters more than maximum longevity.
